Yorkshire Outdoor Activities

Yorkshire is a great place. I grew up on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and regularly took part in activities from Horse Trekking to Rock Climbing.

Yorkshire is home to two National Parks: Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, plus covers part of a third: Peak District.

Factivities.co.uk lists 100's of activities in Yorkshire including:

28 activities on Foot (West 3, North 23, South 2, East 0)
National Parks are perfect places to stretch your legs and get some fresh air, and here in Yorkshire there are plenty of companies to guide you. HF Holidays is one of many companies that offers guided walks in the Yorkshire Dales and Moors. They offer leisurely 4 day breaks to full weeks. The Cleveland Way - 109 mile route, is one of the most challenging walks HF Holidays offers.

Shooting is very popular in Yorkshire, be it paintballing, archery or clay pigeon. These activities can be chosen on their own or combined with others to make a full days adventure.

30 activities on Wheels (West 6, North 23 , South 0, East 1)
Nothing can be better than biking through the picturesque villages and towns in Yorkshire. Saddle Skedaddle will take you on a mountainbiking tour round The Howgills and show you an area of the country that is often overlooked.

If cycling seems just a little to energetic then how about quad biking. There are 7 companies in North Yorkshire alone that offer this thrilling experience. One such company is Quadventures who will take you children from 6 years of age on a special short circuit.

34 activities on Water (West 7, North 15, South 8, East 4)
If you have not tried canoeing and kayaking before then book yourself in. It is great fun and a lovely way to take in your surroundings with the whole family. Parson House Outdoor Pursuit Centre offer experiences from riding the rapids to leisurely meandering down the canal. They have a lovely B&B so why don't you make a weekend of it.

The stunning east coast of North Yorkshire is fast becoming a rival to Devon and Cornwall in the surfing world. You don't need to be fit, but ability to swim is essential.

32 activities on The Hoof (West 8, North 18, South 3, East 3)
One way to take in the outstanding views of the vast Yorkshire countryside is to get driven round the Pennine hills on a horse drawn carriage. Heirloom Carriage Driving can teach absolute beginners to the more advance levels and even put you up in their own B&B.

23 activities on The Edge (West 6, North 8, South 9, East 0)
If you cannot get enough of skiing or snowboarding throughout the year then check out Xscape. This indoor venue offers a real snow experience for you to perfect those turns and bumps.

Xscape also has an indoor ice wall. What more could a winter junky ask for?

14 activities In The Air (West 6, North 7, South 0, East 1)
Airbourne Hang Gliding and Paragliding Centre can get you up in the thermals either solo or with an experienced instructor. Novices start off at ground level and then by the end of the day you will be performing your own low level flights.

They even offer training in Paramotoring and Motor Hang Gliding for those looking to take this activity to another level.

Containing some of England's finest limestone scenery, the Yorkshire Dales is very popular as a destination for cavers wanting to explore the extensive caves and potholes that the geology of the area has created. There are both technical potholes for the more experienced, to show caves for the more casual visitors.

Parson House Outdoor Pursuit Centre based in the Peak District, will let you explore an impressive system of cave passages, which offer a variety of routes of different heights, widths, and degrees of difficulty.

16 activities Else (West 2, North 8, South 6, East 0)
Test your skill, determination, communication, patience and team awareness with by taking part in one of the team building packages on offer at Parson House Outdoor Pursuit Centre.
